In these paintings Begley brings together “memories of place” and abstracted imagery within atmospheric fields to create her naturalistic landscapes and space-scapes. These paintings are an implied storytelling, she likes to call ‘abstract tableaux’. The artist says, ” I am creating abstract atmospheres in which the thematic overtone is about the dynamics of human existence”

Mary Begley 2020: Paintings and Assemblage
    Artspace Buffalo Gallery
    March 6, 2020 - March 30, 2020
    Opening Reception, March 6, 2020, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

An art exhibit of Abstract paintings and surrealist assemblage from Mary Begley's current body of work will be on view at Artspace Buffalo Gallery, 1219 Main St, Buffalo, New York 14209 for the month of March. The show opens on First Friday, March 6 with a reception from 6:00 - 9:00pm. The artist will be onsite during gallery hours every Saturday from 1:00 - 4:00pm.

In this show Begley takes over the Gallery to present a wide variety of work. Begley’s recent abstract series called “Receptor Series” explores naturalistic and bio-morphic forms investigating how we receive information into the body and memory. Some of these works are inspired from human physiology and the inner workings of the body such as the ears, eyes, and nose. Diagrams from textbooks served as starting points for the abstract paintings. Begley says, “I've been experimenting with bringing together memories of place in abstracted imagery and atmospheric fields to create implied storytelling I like to call ‘abstract tableaux’.”

Debuting in the “Receptor Series” are her new assemblages, which are mixed media sculptures. Found objects mixed with sculptural elements that explore forms of human body that receive sensory information. The pieces are very whimsical and a bit surrealistic. Abstract concepts such as being, knowing, substance, identity, time, and space are subject matter. This "Receptor Series" started by using discarded satellite TV dishes as substrates for the pieces, they became mandalas and a few of these examples will also be on view.

Gallery Hours: Saturdays in March 1:00 - 4:00 pm (or call 716-816-8566 or email mary@marybegley.com to make appointment)

    The Abstract Tableau
    JANUARY 8 – FEBRUARY 27, 2016.
    OPENING RECEPTION: JANUARY 8, 6:00-11:00pm

I will exhibit a selection of original abstract paintings at the Pausa Art House, 19 Wadsworth St, Buffalo, NY 14201. The show entitled “The Abstract Tableau,” features a collection of paintings spanning the last few years. An entity surrounded by its environment is a universal concept, whether it is from reality or from a more sub-conscience level. In my current exhibition, The Abstract Tableau, I set out to show how my abstract paintings can tell a story and set a scene. Pieces from different series’ are brought together in one evolving body of work.

The show will run through February 27 with an opening reception for the artist during First Friday.
